Destroying the myths of original creation one episode at a time
One old cliche I should have paid more attention to is ‘never meet your heroes’. I discovered this the hard way back when I was writing my PhD and I attended a law symposium on the Creative Commons in Brisbane. The keynote speaker Lawrence Lessig, whose books and blog had inspired the political direction of my…

Made in Australia: a brief exploration of Australian iPad apps (June, 2011)
The Apple Store (accessed via the iPad) ‘Featured’ tab now includes a ‘Made in Australia’ section subtitled ‘Great Apps for Australians’. What counts as made in Australia, or an Australian app, let alone Apps for Australians isn’t clearly defined, and something I plan to unpack further in the future. Similarly, there is no information as…

World of Chaucer
The podcast from AUC conference on the interdisciplinary World of Warcaft machinima adaptation of Chaucer: http://betweenthebuttons.net/home/?p=336 I can’t stand the sound of my own voice so I haven’t listened to it yet – some body tell me if I sound like a tool or not.

CleanSlate – Mobile Devices and Research and Teaching
Having used the iPad since launch, giving up my gorgeous Dell XPS laptop that was previously in operating my Digital Games Studies subject, I’m looking at creating a starting a blog/wiki/page on information regarding the best practices for Teaching and Research with the Ipad. First, basic usability is great, swictching between handhold and the dock I notice I get more ‘serious’ going from a browser heavy use to the text experience…

Communicaiton
I really dislike mobile phones. I’ve never found one I enjoyed using. I was briefly entertained by the ringtone on an old Sony Ericsson until it became cliche and the Vader March that warned me of certain callers on my first Nokia, but that was quickly overcome by the cost.

Star Trek Online – To Go Boldy Where MMOs have gone before.
Trek universe? Before the reboot and J.J. ABRAMS revision Trek was dead. Enterprise had a couple of good stories, especially the ones with the Andorians, but like the age old Trek versus Wars debate, the fictional world create by Gene Roddenberry has always come off too homespun ideologically for me to actually call myself a…

WordPress Blog
I skip around blogs so much. I don’t tend to write regularly or consistently, so it’s a useful excuse that as an ‘Lecturer in Digital Communications’ I get to experiment with a range of blogging platforms as means of experimentation and learning. A new test phase of the UoW Blogging platform means setting my students…
